Situation

Renown Health of Reno, NV recently completed a complete brand makeover. Formerly known as Washoe Regional Medical Center, Renown Health teamed with INNERFACE to incorporate their new brand into a completely new interior and exterior signage and wayfinding program. The first phase of the project from design development to installation was all compressed into a 12 week time frame. Additionally, all Phase 1 signs for the main campus, hospital campus and 9 different patient care sites needed to be installed within 48 hours of the brand rollout. Renown's campus contains more than 400 acres and is northern Nevada's largest health network. It includes 4 hospitals, 8 medical clinic, x-ray and imaging centers.

Objectives

Implementation and translation of prototype design, retention of design intent while conforming to municipal codes and reinforcing of new brand and palette.
Establishment of appropriate and effective phasing plane to ensure optimum impact and visibility.
Maintenance of all timing-related targets and pending critical path decisions.
Adaptation of retrofit/installation methods to ensure 48 hour implementation.

Approach

Highlight visitor entries with a welcoming and softer environment (pageantry)
Personalize and create a campus-like atmosphere through signage.
Make signs modular and maintainable, yet relate to building architecture and interior palette through the use of color and form.
Use symbols where appropriate for a quick and easy read.
Approach wayfinding solutions on a conventional address orientation to:
- take advantage of the existing lettering system.
- present a familiar vocabulary for visitors.

Success

Phase 1 was a success - all dates were met. Signs were installed and illuminated with the new brand throughout Northern Nevada. Phases 2,3 and 4 are now near completion.
